During last Monday’s daily briefing about Covid testing shortages, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was pushed. A Fox News Reporter asked why the Biden Administrations was so “unprepared.”
The reporter Peter Doocy had spent time in quarantine over the holidays himself. He said he followed Joe Biden’s advice on what to do for testing. “I heard the President say, ‘Google COVID tests near me.’ So, as somebody isolating with COVID, I did that, and the appointments everywhere were completely jammed. So, why is it you guys were so unprepared for the need for testing after the holidays?” Doocy asked.
Psaki argued that the language they use still makes sense. Overall the Psaki did an excellent job of avoiding the questions of why the country was not ready for this surge. It partially made sense when Delta was the first very serious Covid variant. Yet knowing more variants would certainly come, the Biden Administration should have done a better job of making sure testing was more widely available and accessible.
