Mayor Cracks Down Ahead of Trump Rally

(RightWing.org) – The mayor of Tulsa, OK, has declared a civil emergency in advance of a Trump rally scheduled for Saturday. Highlighting the threat of civil unrest by left-wing activists, Mayor GT Bynum announced a curfew and exclusion zone will be in place over the weekend.

Highlights

President Trump’s campaign rally program, which has been on hold for months in response to the Chinese virus pandemic, will be restarting Saturday with an event in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

  • The rally will take place in Tulsa’s BOK Center, an indoor arena with a capacity of approximately 20,000 people. However, the Trump campaign says there were over a million applicants for the first-come, first-served places.
  • Since Monday, the street leading to the venue has been lined with Trump supporters. Some told local reporters they planned to stay there until after the rally. There seems to be a huge enthusiasm for the event.
  • However, there’s also a risk of disruption. Mayor Bynum says the Tulsa Police Department has warned him left-wing groups plan to travel to Tulsa and disrupt the rally or look for trouble outside it.
  • Bynum says he’s expecting crowds of more than 100,000 people around the BOK Center over the weekend, and to protect public safety he’s taken some radical steps.
  • A federal exclusion zone has been declared, extending for six blocks in every direction around the arena. That zone will be closed to traffic and cleared of parked vehicles before the rally and is now being secured by Tulsa PD.
  • A curfew also came into effect starting at 10 p.m. Thursday night. It lifts from 6 a.m. Saturday until the rally ends to allow for attendees. It then takes effect again until 6 a.m. Sunday.
  • While the curfew’s in effect nobody will be allowed in the exclusion zone unless they’re on official duty, providing emergency services or traveling between home and work.
  • There’s also a ban on carrying gas, kerosene or any other flammable liquid in a glass or uncapped container, which extends to anywhere within Tulsa city limits, while the curfew is in place.
  • The rally is also facing opposition from lawyers, who are taking legal action because they say it breaches social distancing. It’s worth noting the same lawyers had nothing to say about the recent Black Lives Matter protests.
  • Meanwhile, the Trump campaign says it’s looking at holding a second rally in Tulsa to give more people a chance to see the president.
