Hydroxychloroquine Drug Sparks Mike Pence to Call Emergency Meeting at The White House…

Mike Pence Calls Emergency Meeting at The White House Over Hydroxychloroquine Drug...

(RightWing.org) – Multiple doctors have been banned on social media. Their crime? Openly talking to Americans about a possible coronavirus cure. Now, the vice president is taking matters into his own hands.

According to The Hill, Mike Pence called an emergency meeting with multiple doctors following the ban of their online group by social media for promoting hydroxychloroquine as a possible coronavirus treatment.

The latest flashpoint in the battle over America’s coronavirus response is a viral video showing a group of physicians who say a proven antimalarial drug is also an effective remedy for the Wuhan coronavirus. Social media platforms are already moving to suppress the video. Vice President Mike Pence wants to ensure these doctors get a chance to have their say.

Pence Meets With Banned Doctor Group

America’s Frontline Doctors, a group of physicians who believe the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) can cure – or even prevent – infection from the 2019 coronavirus, released a video on Twitter on Tuesday. The tech giant quickly acted to remove the video and restrict accounts that reported it, including the chair of the Arizona Republican Party, a leading journalist, and the president’s son.

The doctors held, and filmed, a press conference on Monday. The highlight was Nigerian-born Dr. Stella Immanuel, who now practices in Texas, saying she’s treated over 350 COVID-19 patients with hydroxychloroquine and they’ve all recovered.

Unfortunately for the doctors, the Left is firmly opposed to HCQ since President Trump said it was worth researching. The situation is so bad that the state of Ohio briefly banned doctors from prescribing the drug, just in case someone receives a treatment our president endorses. State leaders have since reversed this decision.

Social media companies don’t want the video – or anything else from America’s Frontline Doctors – being circulated. The administration doesn’t want to see them silenced unfairly.

Internet Censorship

Vice President Mike Pence met with representatives of the group, including leader Simone Gold. in the White House on Tuesday. Gold later tweeted that they’d asked Pence to help them allow doctors to prescribe hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus patients, despite attempts by the Left to prevent them doing so.

Gold also said she spoke to Pence about the censorship of doctors by social media. While there isn’t hard evidence that HCQ is effective against coronavirus, several studies and the experience of doctors like Immanuel suggest that it could be, and without any other cure on the horizon, it’s certainly worth trying. The drug has been used to prevent malaria for over 60 years and is known to be safe if taken in controlled doses.

Twitter and other social media platforms say the video, and comments by Immanuel, Gold and others, are “misleading information” that violates their terms of use.

The meeting between the group and Pence came at a time when big tech is under fire for allegedly violating antitrust laws. Lawmakers are holding a House hearing to discuss actions for tech giants like Google and Facebook.

Should tech experts have the right to decide that doctors don’t understand medicine? Vice President Pence, thankfully, doesn’t think so.
