New Stimulus? Yes, This One? NO

New Stimulus? Yes, This One? NO

(RightWing.org) – The leader of the Senate’s Republican majority says there’s a “high likelihood” a fourth coronavirus stimulus bill will be passed – but it won’t be the one Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) trying to push through right now. Pelosi and her fellow Dems had the opportunity to come up with a bill that would really help American workers. Instead, they acted like a brat in a candy store, demanding a pile of expensive luxuries. Now, they’ve been told they’re not going to get them, so expect tantrums.

Highlights

Congress has already passed three massive stimulus funding bills plus an interim plan in an attempt to protect workers and the economy from the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown. Now, both the Trump administration and the Democrats want a fourth funding package – but there are significant differences of opinion on what it should look like.

  • On Tuesday, House Democrats put forward their proposals for the next stimulus package. It’s the biggest yet, carrying a massive $3 trillion price tag. That’s as much as all the previous packages combined.
  • The most popular part of the package would probably be a further round of payments to most Americans – another $1,200 each, with a $6,000 cap per household.
  • Anyone claiming unemployment benefits would also gain from the bill, with the extra $600 weekly payment extended to the end of January 2021.
  • More controversially, student loan repayments would be frozen until September, and there’s also a proposed $175 billion fund to help those in rented or mortgaged homes.
  • Maybe the worst aspect of the proposal is an estimated trillion dollars allocated to state and local governments. The worry for Republicans is many of these would use the money to bail themselves out of the financial messes they’ve gotten themselves into that are NOT COVID related – and a lot of GOP lawmakers suspect the Dems are using the Wuhan virus as cover to do exactly that.
  • House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) accused Speaker Pelosi of writing a “liberal wish list” under the smokescreen of the pandemic.
  • The bill narrowly passed the Democrat-controlled House, but wasn’t the walk in the park Pelosi and company thought it would be. Several Dems — from moderates to progressives — voted against it for one reason or another. Some saying the bill goes too far, while others say it doesn’t do enough.
  • Even though the bill managed to make it through the House vote, its chances in the Senate are slim. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told Fox News, “I think there’s a high likelihood we’ll do another bill” – but, he continued, Pelosi’s massive giveaway is “unsalvageable” and “a parade of absurdities that can hardly be taken seriously.”
  • More federal money will be needed to help American workers get through this crisis, but that money needs to be spent wisely, not thrown away on Liberal obsessions. It looks like, yet again, it’s going to be up to the Senate to rein in Pelosi and her ambitions.
