AOC Responds to Biden’s Admission That He Doesn’t Support the Green New Deal
(UnitedVoice.com) – Tuesday, September 29, was the date of the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Under the moderatorship of Fox’s Chris Wallace, the two candidates fielded questions on a number of topics, including the environment.
When President Trump pushed Biden on his position on the Green New Deal, the controversial environmental legislation championed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Biden distanced himself from the initiative. He stated he was a proponent of the “Biden Plan,” a list of his own measures considerably less radical than the Green New Deal.
When former White House counselor Kelllyanne Conway drew her attention to these remarks via Twitter, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez had the following response:
This isn’t news, Kellyanne.
Our differences are exactly why I joined Biden’s Climate Unity Task Force – so we could set aside our differences & figure out an aggressive climate plan to address the planetary crisis at our feet.
Trump doesn’t even believe climate change is real. https://t.co/Bj8SMD9Syf

While Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is quick to get behind Joe Biden now, it’s worth considering how friendly their relationship might be after the election. His live, public denouncement of the Democrats’ flagship environmental policy is yet another indication of the division within the party. If senior party figures can’t agree on a coherent strategy for an issue as important as the environment, it’s difficult to see them providing effective leadership going forward.
