Democrats Lie About Two GOP Lawmakers

Democrats Lie About Two GOP Lawmakers

(UnitedVoice.com) – It’s no secret that politicians love to twist facts in their favor. Exaggerations or flat out lies are a tried and true method that can either earn notable political advantages or backfire significantly. The latter seems to be the case with this story.

For decades, Democrats have loved to demonize Republicans during the budget season. They alleged the GOP wanted to starve kids, kill seniors, and all other kinds of outlandish things.

During the 2012 presidential election, the best ad was “throw granny off the cliff.” Do you remember that outrageous one? It accused Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) of wanting to end Medicare. The charge was overblown and brutal, but it was successful.

Today, the battle lines between the parties have changed. Instead of making up facts about the motives for spending cuts that have a great deal of nuance, the attacks are direct and overt. In the age of COVID-19, the truth is both parties spend and borrow trillions of dollars. Instead of attacking each other over financial concerns, it’s much more personal as the risks are growing higher in the fight for or against socialism, which is about more than just money. It’s about control and who has a say over the lives of Americans – the individual or the government.

Gohmert Tests Positive for COVID-19

On Tuesday, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) attended the extraordinary House Judiciary Committee hearing with US Attorney General William Barr. Later, Gohmert was supposed to travel on Air Force One with President Trump to Texas for a campaign speech. Unbeknownst to him at the time, he contracted COVID-19, which was discovered on Wednesday morning at the White House.

Gohmert has refused to wear a mask around Capitol Hill while social distancing. During Tuesday’s hearing with Barr, he did wear a mask when he was not engaging with the attorney general. The Texas representative was reportedly driving home, where he will continue to work under self-quarantine for two weeks.

Media and #2 House Democrat Make Up Facts for Political Gain

After Tuesday’s event with Barr, Democrats and some media wrongly accused Gohmert of refusing to wear a mask during the hearing. Politico falsely tweeted that he was chastised by Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY). Gohmert’s Chief of Staff Connie Hair tweeted in response:

In a call with reporters on Wednesday, Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) shredded GOP lawmakers as “irresponsible.” He ripped into Gohmert, making up his own set of facts that he had to clarify later, which were still wrong.

Unbelievably, Hoyer said Gohmert exercised at the House gym and attended the Barr hearing “after” testing positive for COVID-19. That clearly is not what happened. Later in the call, he clarified his statement and got it wrong again. What Hoyer said he meant to say was it was Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) who exercised at the Senate gym “after” testing positive for the virus.

Both statements are not true, and both men were asymptomatic with no knowledge they were carriers of the virus at the time of the events stated by Hoyer.

Smear Attempt

Once again, Democrats are attempting to change the facts to meet a narrative. Neither Gohmert nor Paul did those things “after” testing positive for COVID-19. Instead, both immediately quarantined themselves from the public.

The worst part? Reporters tweeted out Hoyer’s statement without fact-checking. They put out the congressman’s disinformation. Unfortunately, that’s to be expected of Democrats and their partners in the media.
